Eagles to Play Blue Devils for the first time since 2023
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — No. 24 Boston College Baseball is set to host the Duke Blue Devils for a three-game series. The first game begins at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow and will be streamed live on ACCNX. Games two and three are scheduled for April 18 and 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively, both on ACCNX.
Record vs Duke
Boston College is 22-17 all-time against the Blue Devils with a 12-9 record at home. The two teams have not met since 2023, when Duke took two of three in Brighton. The Eagles' lone win was a 9-6 win in the second of three games, with Travis Honeyman and Nick Wang leading the way with two RBI. Honeyman had three hits that day, while three others had two hits. Joey Ryan earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings while striking out three. Andrew Roman closed the game out for the save with three scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke is 22-17 this season, with an 8-10 ACC record, which ranks ninth in the conference. The Blue Devils have lost four of their last five, having dropped two of three at NC State and both of their last two midweek games. Duke hits .276 as a team with just two players hitting above the average. R.J. Hamilton and Coltin Quagliano lead the Blue Devils, hitting .318 and .278, respectively. Hamilton is also the hits leader with 41, while Kaden Smith has 29 RBI to lead Duke. The Blue Devils have a staff ERA of 5.74, with three pitchers having sub-4.00 ERAs. Ben Dean has the lowest ERA of the group at 2.42. Duke has three starters with over 30 innings of work, led by Aidan Weaver, who has thrown 44.2 innings. Weaver also leads the staff with 57 strikeouts.
The Matchups
On Friday, A.J. Colarusso and Aidan Weaver will face off to begin the series. Friday marks Colarusso's 44th career start, which will set the program record. Colarusso is 3-1 this year in nine starts. He has an ERA of 3.55 to go with 41 strikeouts. In his last start, Colarusso went five innings against Virginia Tech and gave up five earned runs while striking out four. Weaver is 4-4 this season in nine starts. He has an ERA of 5.24 and 57 strikeouts. His last start was just two innings against NC State, where he surrendered six earned runs while recording just one strikeout.
Saturday will feature Brady Miller against Peter Lemke. Miller has yet to record a decision in seven starts, but has pitched 33 innings. He has a 3.00 ERA to go with 33 strikeouts so far this season. His last start was during the 14th Annual ALS Awareness game, where he went six innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out six. Lemke is 1-3 this season and has made 12 appearances to go with two starts. He last started against NC State and went just 1.2 innings, giving up 8 runs (6 earned) while striking out 2.
On Sunday, Boston College's starter is TBD, while Andy Leon will pitch for Duke. Leon is 2-2 in nine starts this season. He has thrown 38.1 innings this year while posting an ERA of 4.93 to go with 37 strikeouts.
Last Time Out
The Eagles won both of their midweeks, defeating Northeastern, 3-1, to earn the Beanpot championship and then beat UConn, 8-5. The Beanpot title was the first for Boston College since 2023. Luke Gallo had all three RBI in the win over the Huskies as he hit his first home run and brought in two more with a bloop single in the sixth inning. Jacob Burnham threw a career-high 5.2 innings while John Kwiatkowski earned his fifth win of the season. On Wednesday, Wang had four RBI to pace the Eagles' offense to the win. He hit his 13th home run of the season, which is now tied for 10th most in a single season, while moving him into a tie for third most in program history. Kyle Kipp earned his first win of the season, while John D Mitchell earned his first career save.
