Boston College had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, falling to Pittsburgh, 9-3, at Shea Field.
BC (33-15, 14-6) jumped on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, shortstop Marco Albano singled to center field. Senior Mike Flynn tripled past a diving Ben Copeland in center, scoring Albano and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Ryne Reynoso struck out to make the second out of the inning, but senior Dave Preziosi placed a perfect bunt single down the third-base line to score Flynn and give BC another run.
The Panthers (23-16, 9-8) scored six runs on six hits in the top of the third inning off BC starter Mike Wlodarczyk to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Catcher Jeff Stevens drilled a three-run home run to right field during the Pittsburgh rally.
With the score 7-2, left fielder Jason Delaney led off the seventh with a walk and later scored on Albano's double to the left-center field gap.
The Panthers scored a run in both the eighth and ninth innings to close out the victory.
Wlodarczyk (9-2) struck out 10 batters in six innings of work. It is the southpaw's first loss since BC's season-opening loss at Vanderbilt. He had won his previous nine decisions.
Senior Drew Locke had two doubles for the Eagles and now leads the team with 18 this season.
BC and Pittsburgh will meet on Monday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
