Boston College freshman linebacker Brian Toal has been named to the Football Writers Association of America and Scripps fourth annual Freshman All-America team. The honor is the second for Toal, who previously was named to the Sporting News Freshman All-America First Team.
Toal finished the 2004 season as the Eagles' second-leading tackler with 77 (37 solos), along with 4.5 tackles-for-loss, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. He was named Big East Rookie of the Year and compiled more tackles than any true freshman in BC football history.
The 2004 Freshman All-America team also includes Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson and Michigan quarterback Chad Henne.
