CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team posted a 5-1 non-conference win over Harvard Thursday afternoon at Shea Field. Freshman pitcher Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) led the way in the circle and at the plate in the win, helping the Eagles improve to 28-21 overall (7-9 BIG EAST).
Thompson had a no-hitter through four innings to pace the win in the circle. She also belted a pair of two-run home runs to account for four of her team's five runs in the victory. On the day, she struck out three while walking one. She gave up five hits and one earned run in seven innings.
The Eagles pushed two runs across in the bottom half of the first inning. In her first at-bat, Thompson drove a high fly ball over the center field fence, scoring herself and Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.), who started the rally with a two-out single.
In the third inning, Thompson's at-bat was deja-vu for the Eagles. With one out, Obrest struck out but reached first when the ball got by the Harvard catcher. A batter later, Thompson smacked one out, this time over the right field wall.
The Eagles added an insurance run in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a Harvard error and an Obrest RBI single. Obrest went 2-for-4 on the afternoon while Thompson was a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI.
The Eagles will return to action this weekend, returning to conference play with a May 2 doubleheader at Providence. BC will return to Shea Field for a single game with Massachusetts May 6 at 5:00 p.m.
