Boston College baseball player Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass./St. John?s Prep) earned BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week in an announcement made by the league office, Monday, April 26. The senior shortstop received his first distinction from the conference and is the second Eagle to be recognized this season. Matt O?Donnell earned the nod for Pitcher of the Week April 12.
Ryan Leahy went 9-for-16 (.562) last week, leading the Eagles to a 3-1 record. In two conference games with Connecticut, the senior hit .750 (6-for-8), driving home two runs and stealing one base, highlighted by four hits in the 7-6 extra-innings affair in the nightcap of the UConn doubleheader. He did not make an error in nine chances in those two games. The Salem, Mass. native now leads the league with a .422 batting clip in BIG EAST games.
Leahy also registered four RBI and three hits, including one home run, in the first round of the Beanpot Tournament vs. Harvard, April 20.
The Boston College Eagles are now 17-20 overall and 6-6 in the league. They host Northeastern on Tuesday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, a rematch of the Beanpot Championship held April 21 when the Eagles earned the 6-2 win.
