Softball Breaks For Easter With Doubleheader Sweep Of Connecticut

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College softball team swept a BIG EAST doubleheader with Connecticut Saturday afternoon at UConn Softball Field on the campus of the University of Connecticut in Storrs. The Eagles won the first game, 7-5, before also winning the second, 6-0. With the two victories, Boston College stands at 24-15 overall and 4-4 in the BIG EAST.
Game One - Boston College 7, Connecticut 5
Boston College scored two runs in the top of the second and never relinquished the lead en route to the victory. Despite four errors, which accounted for three Husky runs, the Eagles pounded out 11 hits on the day.
Boston College scored two runs in the second via RBI hits by Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) and Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.). The Eagles added a pair in the third inning, courtesy of a two-run homerun by Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.).
Connecticut would cut the lead in half at 4-2 after three innings, but BC scored three more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.) and Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) collected RBI hits. Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) got the win on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings of relief.
Game Two - Boston College 6, Connecticut 0
The long ball was the difference in the night cap as Boston College scored all of their runs on home runs to take a lead for the eventual win.
In the fourth inning, Thompson belted a two-run homer for the 2-0 advantage. Macchi followed with a three-run blast in the fifth inning to expand the lead to 5-0. Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) helped her own cause with a solo blast in the seventh inning for the eventual 6-0 margin.
Daly pitched the complete-game shut out win, improving to 6-2 on the season. Over seven innings, the junior struck out three while walking none and scattering five hits.
Boston College will break for Easter and return to action Thursday with a single game at Massachusetts. The Eagles will return to BIG EAST action with a road trip to Villanova and Rutgers April 17-18.
