Women's Lacrosse Falls Just Short Against Harvard

CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - Despite scoring five unanswered goals to close the game, the Boston College women's lacrosse team (1-1) fell, 9-8, to Harvard (1-2) on Wednesday afternoon in its home opener at Alumni Stadium.
The Crimson jumped out to a quick four goal lead in the first eight minutes of play. The Eagles managed to halt their opponent, and tally one of their own, with 4:23 remaining in the first half. The Boston College goal came from Jackie Yovankin, on an assist by Carley St. Lucia. Harvard struck once more before the break, to take a 5-1 advantage to the locker room.
Harvard found the back of the net first in the second period, and posted four goals in the first 13 minutes of the half. Boston College chipped away at the Harvard advantage, getting two, one each from Yovankin and St. Lucia, amidst the Crimson scores.
The Eagles then mounted a strong comeback, scoring five goals to close the game. St. Lucia scored another, her second of the game, while Susie Breaznell picked up two and Yovankin added two as well, to bring her game and season total to four.
All of the Eagles' eight goals and two assists came from just three players, sophomores St. Lucia (two goals, two assists), Yovankin (four goals), and Breaznell (two goals).
Elaine Belitsos lead the Crimson with two goals and two assists.
BC's Michelle Lawson had eight saves in goal.
The Eagles welcome the University of Notre Dame to Alumni Stadium on Saturday, March 15 for an 11 a.m. contest.
