CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team's Diamond Club will hold its 12th annual "Baseball Night in Boston" on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003. The event will be held at the prestigious .406 Club (formerly the 600 Club) at Fenway Park, beginning at 6 p.m. Special guest Johnny Pesky will be in attendance and will be honored at the dinner.
The annual Baseball Night event will benefit both the BIG EAST Athletes Care program, a social service project that utilizes college student-athletes to provide educational and recreational opportunities to children in the city of Boston, and the Boston College baseball program.
Pesky has served the Red Sox in a multitude of capacities since beginning his career in 1940 as a minor league player. One of the first players to be inducted to the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1995, Pesky has played, coached and managed in the Sox organization. He also was a radio and television announcer for Boston.
During his 10-year career with the Red Sox, Detroit and Washington, Pesky hit .307. He held the Boston record for most hits by a rookie before it was broken by Nomar Garciaparra in 1997. Pesky still holds a share of two Major League records: he led the league in hits for three straight seasons and scored six runs in one game.
Ticket information for Baseball Night may be obtained by calling the Boston College Athletic Development Office at (617) 552-0772.
