Boston College senior quarterback Brian St. Pierre (Danvers, Mass.) and senior center Dan Koppen (Whitehall, Pa.) are among the early commitments to play in the 78th annual East-West Shrine Game. The event, which brings together some of the nation's top college players and benefits the 22 Shriners hospitals located across the country, will kick off Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco.
Both St. Pierre and Koppen enter the 2002 football season as BIG EAST Conference and national all-star candidates. As BC's starting quarterback in all 11 games plus the Music City Bowl win vs. Georgia last season, St. Pierre completed 149 passes for 2,016 yards in his junior year. His 25 passing touchdowns tied as the second-highest total in school history. Koppen also was a 12-game starter last year and was named second team All-BIG EAST. He helped the Eagles become the second-leading offense in the BIG EAST in terms of total offense, first in rushing yards and third in scoring.
Notre Dame head coach Tyrone Willingham will guide the East squad while Mike Price of Washington State will coach the West team.
