Women's Lacrosse Defeats La Salle, 16-7

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team defeated La Salle University, 16-7, on Thursday afternoon at Finnessey Field. Senior co-captain Lauren Miller scored four goals and added six assists to pace the offense and sophomore Rachel Zeller made 16 saves in net for the Eagles. With the win, Boston College improves to 1-0 on the season, while La Salle falls to 0-1.
The Eagles jumped out to the early lead less than five minutes into the first half, when freshman Courtney Legath took a feed from sophomore Tara Morley and beat Explorer goalkeeper Lianne Dictor. Legath's tally was the first of her career. BC would double its lead moments later on an unassisted goal for senior co-captain Chrissie DeMichele. Goals would come early and often for the visiting side as tallies by Legath (twice), Miller (twice), DeMichele (twice), and Morley pushed the lead to 9-2 at the break.
The second half saw much of the same one-sided action, as the Eagles held a decided territorial advantage. Sophomore Rachel Bausch brought the lead to eight just over one minute in, taking a feed from Miller and beating the helpless Explorer goalkeeper. La Salle would attempt a late rally, but the steadiness of Zeller in net and timely scoring would quell any Explorer momentum.
For the match, DeMichele finished with four goals, Legath finished with three goals and one assist, Morley added one goal and two assists and Bausch notched two goals. Other key contributors were freshmen Carley St. Lucia (one goal) and Jackie Yovankin (one assist), as well as, sophomore Meggie O'Neill (one goal).
La Salle received goals from Jami Wilus (three), Jennifer Blaney (three), and Amy Koons (one).
The Eagles will next take the field at Villanova University on Saturday, March 9. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
