Softball Falls To No. 2 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona spotted Boston College a one-run lead in the first but put together a nine-run third thanks to some bases on balls, an error and some home runs en route to a 13-1 softball victory over the Eagles Tuesday night.
No. 2-ranked UA improved to 24-2 and won its 64th consecutive home game. Boston College dropped to 3-11.
Elyse Meredith hit a two-out home run to left-center field in the top of the second inning to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. UA's Jenny Gladding walked the next batter and gave up a single to Leah Kamataris to put runners at the corners, but Sara Kellner grounded to second to end the rally.
UA tied the game in the bottom of the inning on one play. Gladding walked, and pinch runner Carrie Hagen stole second, moved to third on the bad throw to the bag and scored on an errant throw from the outfield.
Jackie Coburn then walked, Allyson Von Lictenstein chopped a single over third and Lisha Ribellia hit a bunt single to short to load the bases. Lovie Jung hit a sac fly to right to score Coburn and give UA a 2-1 lead.
With two outs in the Arizona third, Boston College pitcher Kim Ryan walked three to load the bases, and Von Lichtenstein's chopper up the middle drove in UA's third run. Lisha Ribellia drew a walk to drive in another, then Jung clobbered Arizona's ninth grand slam of the year to make it 8-1.
After a pitching change, Candace Abrams reached on an error, Jennie Finch walked and Leneah Manuma hit her 14th home run of the year to make it 11-1. The last three runs were unearned.
Finch added a two-run double in the fourth to complete the scoring at 13-1.
BC collected four hits off Gladding (11-2), while Ryan dropped to 1-5 for the Eagles.
