TUCSON, AZ - Boston College opened up the game with a single up the middle but that was all the offense that the Eagles would muster in a 9-0 loss to No. 2 Arizona. The Eagles fall to 3-12 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 25-2 with their 65th consecutive home victory.
All-American pitcher Jenny Finch handcuffed the Eagle line-up after allowing Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, CA) the game-opening single. Other than Goodchild, BC had just one other baserunner - Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, CA), who reached on an error in the third inning.
The Wildcats banged out eight hits in five innings, including a pair of long balls that broke the game open in the second inning. With two runners on base, 2001 National Player of the Year Finch helped herself at the plate with a line drive over the right field fence to give Arizona a 3-0 lead. Later in that same inning, Mackenzie Vanderbeest greeted reliever Malandris with Arizona's 10th grand slam of the season for the final 9-0 margin.
Finch won her 14th game of the season and her 54th consecutive. BC's Michelle Daly (Carlisle, MA) dropped to 0-1 on the year.
BC will next take on Oregon and and host school UNLV in a UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas March 8-9.
