Lambert Named NCBWA Preseason Second Team All-America

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced today that sophomore starting pitcher Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) has been named a preseason second team all-America.
Lambert is coming off a year in which he went 9-3 with a 2.76 earned run average en route to earning BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year accolades. While playing for the Concord (N.H.) Quarry Dogs this past summer in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, Lambert earned second team all-league honors after going 3-2 with a 1.55 ERA.
Three other BIG EAST players were also named preseason all-America. Villanova reliever James Russell made the first team, while Notre Dame second baseman Steve Sollman and starter Grant Johnson landed on the second and third team, respectively.
The Eagles open the 2003 season Friday, Feb. 21 against North Carolina State at the Charleston Crabhouse Challenge in Charleston, S.C.
