Baseball Falls to St. John's 6-2
April 08, 2001 | Baseball
St. John's sophomore pitcher Tom Klemm of Salem, N.H. retired the final 15 batters that he faced and threw his first career complete game, allowing only four hits and two runs - one earned - over 9.0 innings.
The Eagles opened the game's scoring in the third when Mike Hubbard (Braintree, Mass.) doubled to left and scored after Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.) reached base on an error by left fielder Josh Stewart.
St. John's put up three runs in the fourth inning with two coming on Billy Graiser's two-run double. Matt Lederhos' (Westwood, Mass.) wild pitch produced the other run.
BC, however, pulled within one (3-2) in the fifth when Jarett Mendoza (North Dighton, Mass.) hit a leadoff double, moved to third on Scott Lemone's (Benicia, Calif.) single and scored care of Josh DiScipio's (Schenectady, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt. The hosts tacked on an insurance run, though, in the next half inning when Eric Potts' sacrifice fly brought home Charles Bilezikjian in the sixth.
Lederhos suffered the loss to move to 2-2 on the season. The Eagle sophomore surrendered six hits for five runs in 4.1 innings. In 2.2 innings of relief, Mark Sullivan gave up three hits and one run. The pitching staff was backed by the BC defense, which committed three errors on the day.
BC hosts Albany in a doubleheader Tuesday, April 10. Game time is 2 p.m.
