CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - The Eagles (0-4) fell 9-5 to host Florida Atlantic (6-3) Sunday in Boca Raton, Fla.
Despite scoring four runs in its final at bat, BC came up short for the fourth time in their four-game road trip in Florida. In the FAU contest, the Eagles saw most of their offensive production from the lineup's no. 7, 8 and 9 batters that went a combined 6-for-10 with three runs scored. Brian Durkin (Lowell, Mass.) paced all BC swingers, going 2-for-3. Brian Macchi (Milford, Mass.) and Joe Kealty (Framingham, Mass.) each notched two hits for the second-consecutive game.
Paul Knapic (Bayside, N.Y.) registered the loss on the mound for the Eagles. The junior right-hander threw 4.0 innings of hitless ball, until a four-run, fifth inning propelled the Blue Wave to a 5-1 lead. In 4.2 innings, Knapic tied a career-high nine strikeouts while surrendering three hits and walking eight batters. Mike Gauthier (Salem, Mass.) and Matt Duffey (San Antonio, Texas) gave up a combined nine hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
Greg Eubanks posted his first win of the season for FAU.
Joe Kealty drove in Mike Hubbard (Braintree, Mass.) to start the game's scoring in the first. Knapic walked in a run in the third that tied the game at one. In addition to four runs in the fifth, FAU scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth, but its 9-1 lead dwindled in the ninth when Josh DiScipio (Schnectady, NY) and Macchi started off the inning with back-to-back singles. FAU reliever Tim McNabb walked Scott Foley (East Lyme, Conn.) to load the bases with Mike Hubbard at the plate, who had a sacrifice fly to plate DiScipio. Macchi scored on a wild pitch. Joe Kealty and pinch-hitter Eric Wright (Southboro, Mass.) also added RBI singles in that frame.
The Eagles travel to the College of William and Mary for a three-game series, beginning Friday, February 23. Game time is 3 p.m.
