Baseball Defeats Notre Dame, 4-3, In BIG EAST Championship

Bridgewater, N.J. - Senior right fielder Mike Quirk hit a ninth inning, game-winning, two-out, two-run home run off Notre Dame closer John Corbin to give Boston College a 4-3 win over Notre Dame in the 2000 BIG EAST Baseball Championship at the Somerset Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ.
Senior right-hander Steve Langone pitched a complete game for the Eagles, allowing eight hits to improve his record to 8-2. Corbin drops to 4-3 with the loss.
The Fighting Irish jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning. BC closed the gap to 3-2 with a run-scoring single by senior second baseman Mike Gambino, setting the stage for Quirk's heroics.
The win for BC (34-18) was its first BIG EAST Championship win in school history. The Eagles advance to play Seton Hall on Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m. Notre Dame, now 42-15, plays an elimination game versus Pittsburgh Thursday at noon.
