Lee Leads Maroon Team to 17-13 Win over White

CHESTNUT HILL - Junior running back Quinton Lee (5-0, 195, Houston, TX) rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead the maroon team to a 17-13 victory over the white squad in the annual Boston College Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Football Game at Alumni Stadium.
Lee carried the ball 19 times, including a 39-yard scoring romp in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for the maroon team. Redshirt freshman Nathan Funk (5-11, 193, Vancouver, Canada) gained 51 yards on the ground for the maroon squad, while sophomore quarterback Tim Hasselbeck (6-2, 211, Norfolk, MA) completed 7 of 16 passes for 53 yards. Sophomore kicker Mike Sutphin (6-3, 202, Baltimore, MD) added three points for the maroon with a 45-yard field goal.
Senior quarterback Scott Mutryn (6-3, 212, Middleburg Heights, OH) completed 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards and one touchdown to lead the white squad, which was led in rushing by senior running back Mike Cloud (5-11, 201, Portsmouth, RI), who picked up 67 yards on 13 carries. Junior placekicker John Matich (6-2, 203, San Diego, CA) connected on two of three field goal attempts, including a long of 40.
At halftime of the game, head coach Tom O'Brien announced that junior defensive back Pedro Cirino (5-11, 191, Jersey City, NJ) has been named this year's winner of the Jay McGillis scholarship, awarded annually to a defensive back who best exemplifies the personal qualities of McGillis, a BC defensive back who died from leukemia on July 3, 1992. BC's spring game is named in honor of McGillis.
