Olivia Watkins
Assistant Coach
Olivia Watkins is entering her third season as an assistant coach at Boston College. She arrived at the Heights after two seasons as an assistant at Dartmouth College.
As the head assistant coach at BC, she concentrates on the infield and outfield defense, base running as well as slap hitting. Watkins duties will also include being a liaison for Student-Athlete Student Development, communications and marketing. She is also involved in recruiting, travel plans and is the BC Camp Co-Director.

In 2020, Watkins helped develop junior outfielder Ellie Mataya, who was named to the All-ACC second team.

Mataya finished the season as BC's leading batter. She led the team in batting average (.373), at bats (153), runs (20), hits (57), doubles (9), triples (3), total bases (78), slugging percentage (.510), on-base percentage (.411) and stolen bases (12-for-12).

She finished the regular season ranked sixth in the ACC in hits, eighth in the conference in batting, 11th in doubles and sixth in triples.

Mataya's .373 average tied for eighth in BC single-season history. She tied for ninth in school history in triples in 2021.
While at Dartmouth, Watkins was instrumental in helping the team earn a share of the 2018 Ivy League title. She was the hitting, base running and infield defensive coach.
Watkins’ began her coaching career at the University of Illinois where she was the volunteer assistant coach for two seasons (2016-17).
The Fighting Illini went 75-42 (.636) and finished fourth overall in the 14-team league in 2017. Watkins implemented practice plans, reviewed film, organized and created scouting reports, and performed administrative tasks.

Watkins shined on the diamond at Western Kentucky for four seasons. She was a two-time NFCA All-Region and All-Sun Belt First Team honoree. Watkins finished her career with program records in two categories – batting average (.380) and stolen bases (117).
As a senior, Watkins set program single-season records with a .442 batting average, 87 hits and 55 stolen bases.
Watkins became the first Hilltopper to sign with the National Pro Fastpitch League, first with the Akron Racers in 2014, then the Pennsylvania Rebellion the following two years. In the summer of 2017, she was a member of the Houston Scrap Yard Dawgs, which won the Cowles Cup as the league champion.

A native of Florence, Alabama, Watkins earned her degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in science in 2015 from Western Kentucky. Watkins is also a member of the Boston College Athletics Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
