AS A SENIOR (2018-19)

AS A SOPHOMORE (2016-17)
Appeared in 38 games, starting the first six games at center before moving back to defense for the remainder of the season … tallied six points on one goal and five assists … was a +10 on the season and blocked 16 shots … whistled for just four penalties on the season … developed into one of the team’s most consistent players on defense and saw her ice time increase steadily throughout the season … by February, she was taking regular shifts in the defensive rotation – partnering mostly with Megan Keller – and also getting time on the penalty-kill unit … recorded her first career point – also her first career goal – against Connecticut (Oct. 29) … added single assists at Providence (Dec. 3) and against Merrimack (Feb. 24) in Game 2 of the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals and against Vermont (March 4) in the Hockey East Tournament Semifinals … posted a career-best two assists against Vermont in the team’s 7-1 win on Feb. 12, and also registered a career-best four blocks in that game … twice finished +3 in a game: vs. Vermont (Feb. 12) and vs. Providence (Feb. 19) … her assist against Merrimack in the HEA Quarterfinals came on Keller’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 series clincher … sprung Makenna Newkirk for the Eagles’ third goal against UVM in the HEA Semifinals … one of the team’s representatives to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) … a Hockey East Academic All-Star and ACC Honor Roll performer … also earned the Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Achievement … an AHCA All-American Scholar.

Dressed for 28 games, all at forward … slotted in on the fourth line except for the Feb. 6 game at Connecticut where she centered the third line … did not register any points … picked up two penalties: a body checking penalty against New Hampshire (Oct. 18) and a cross-checking minor at Connecticut (Oct. 31) … blocked two shots: one vs. Harvard (Feb. 2) in the first round of the Beanpot and one in the Hockey East Tournament championship game against Boston University (March 6) … dressed for the Eagles’ entire postseason run, including the team’s two Frozen Four games ... earned the Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement, as well as places on the Hockey East All-Academic Team and the ACC Honor Roll.Â

Attended Choate Rosemary Hall for three years after starting her high school career at Hotchkiss … played the last three seasons at Choate under head coach Nicole Stock after starting at Hotchkiss under head coach John Cooper … played defense for the Mid Fairfield CT Stars, most recently on the U19 team under Jake Mastel … helped Mid Fairfield CT Stars earn runner-up honors USA Hockey’s Tier I National Championship in 2014 … selected to attend USA Hockey National Developmental Camps in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, and played in the 2013 all-star game … also played varsity field hockey and lacrosse, helping Hotchkiss win the 2011 NEPSAC field hockey championship.

Serena is the daughter of Tim Sommerfield and Eve Iselin … she is the youngest of their three children, after sister Alexis and brother Timmy … enrolled in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences … was an honor roll student every term in high school at both Hotchkiss and Choate, and graduated cum laude from Choate … volunteered with Choate Rosemary Hall’s adaptive skating program all three years she attended, and is actively involved in community service in her spare time … recipient of the Driscoll Family Hockey Scholarship Fund … inducted into the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honors Economics Society in 2018.
