No. 22 Eagles Split Doubleheader with Highlanders

Colin Larson, Esteban Garcia, and Ben Williams all have multi-hit games
BRIGHTON, Mass. - No. 22 Boston College baseball (36-17, 17-10) split their double header with NJIT (16-28-1, 6-15) as they dropped the first one, 8-7, and won the second one, 6-3.
Game 1
Brady Miller started for the Eagles and went 4.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs while striking out five. Cesar Gonzalez relieved Miller and finished the game out while striking out four. Ben Williams and Colin Larson each had two hits, while Williams had a pair of RBI to lead the offense.Â
The Highlanders struck first in the top of the first with a solo shot to left field that came with two outs. They added two runs in the second, the first another solo shot to deep left field, which went 412 feet, before a single up the middle brought in a runner from second.Â
Boston College got on the board in the third when Nick Wang brought in Williams from third with a sacrifice fly to the wall in deep center field.Â
The Eagles put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth as they took their first lead. Kyle Wolff launched his seventh home run of the season, 408 feet to left field. Williams would hit an infield single before being brought in by a triple to right field by Colin Larson. Larson came in for the final run of the inning when Julio Solier hit a groundout to the shortstop.Â
NJIT would retake the lead in the fifth inning when back-to-back singles would score runners from third. They would add three more in the inning with a three-run shot that would make it 8-4 for the Highlanders.Â
Boston College got two more in the bottom of the fifth inning when Williams hit a ground rule double to the wall, which would score runners from second and third.Â
The Eagles added their seventh run in the bottom of the sixth when Luke Gallo hit a bouncing ball to the second baseman, which he beat out to score Wang from third.
Boston College would not be able to get another run across in the next three innings.Â
Game 2
A.J. Colarusso started for Boston College in the second game and went three innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Colarusso moved into ninth all-time in career strikeouts with 194. Tyler Mudd came on after Colarusso and gave up three earned runs in two innings of work. Sean Hard relieved Mudd in the sixth and had four strikeouts without allowing a run in two innings of work. Kyle Kipp came on for the eighth inning and threw a scoreless eighth. Gavin Soares closed out the game, throwing a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.Â
The Eagles struck twice in the first inning with Wolff singling home Julio Solier with two outs. Esteban Garcia then launched a double to the wall, which brought in Wolff from second.
NJIT tied it up in the top of the fourth with two solo home runs to left field.Â
The Highlanders took the lead in the fifth with a single to center, which brought in a runner from second.Â
In the bottom half, Boston College struck three times to take a 5-3 lead. Danny Surowiec led off the inning with a walk before being moved over by Gonzalez on a bunt. Solier lined a single up the middle, which would have Surowiec score from second. The single was his 77th of the season, which moved him into a tie for 10th all-time in single-season hits. Solier was brought in on a line drive double by Wang to left field. Gunnar Johnson brought in the final run of the inning with another double to bring in Wang.Â
Up Next: The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. against UMass Lowell before concluding the regular season with three games against No. 3 Georgia Tech.
