Kapke's 25 Not Enough as BC Falls, 72-63, to Virginia Tech on the Road

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Boston College dropped a road contest to Virginia Tech Tuesday evening by a score of 72-63. Boden Kapke and Fred Payne combined for 41 points and 20 rebounds.

- Virginia Tech opened the contest on a 9-2 scoring run.
- BC responded with scoring chances from Donald Hand Jr. and Fred Payne to make it 14-8 with 12:19 remaining in the half.
- The hosts extended their lead midway through the half, going on a 13-0 run to grab a 30-11 advantage.
- Boden Kapke responded with five of seven BC points to cut the deficit to 14 heading into the final media timeout.
- Virginia Tech held a 35-24 lead going into halftime.
- BC cut the deficit to 36-29 before the Hokies reclaimed an 11-point edge in the opening minutes of the second half.
- The Eagles took over after the first media as Chase Forte connected on a three and a smooth dime to Aidan Shaw to cut the deficit to 48-42 with 11:42 left.
- Virginia Tech found a scoring stretch that extended the lead back to 13 points.
- BC wouldn't back down, scoring three straight baskets to make it 67-58 with under three minutes remaining.
- The Hokie would hold on, however, taking a 72-63 decision.
- Boden Kapke recorded a career-high 25 points, shooting 11-of-19 from the field
- Fred Payne logged 16 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double
- Boston College improves to 3-14 in ACC play and 10-20 in the regular season
- The Eagles' all-time series record against Virginia Tech is now 22-15
- Boston College returns to Conte Forum for the final game of the regular season against Notre Dame on Saturday, March 7.
