BC Run Rules Cavaliers in Seven Innings
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College Baseball (20-8, 8-3 ACC) shut out ninth-ranked Virginia (21-7, 6-5 ACC) in the second of three games on Saturday afternoon, 17-0.
Tyler Mudd started for the Eagles and went five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits to earn his second win of the season. Kyle Kipp closed out the game, throwing two scoreless innings, allowing just a hit with one strikeout.Â
Boston College put up five runs in the first inning to get the scoring started. Julio Solier led off the game with an infield single and took second on a balk before advancing to third on a bunt single by Nick Wang. Solier would score to give the Eagles the lead when Jack Toomey beat out an infield single. Carter Hendrickson would then ground out to the shortstop, which would score Wang. Luke Gallo would bring in the third run of the game with a single to left field, which would score Toomey. Kyle Wolff would make it 5-0 with his second home run in as many days, which would complete the five-run inning for Boston College.Â
In the bottom of the second, Wang would hit a 407-foot home run to deep center field. The home run, which was his 11th of the season and matches his career high for most in a single season, made it 6-0.
Gallo would drive in his second RBI of the game with another single to left field, which would score Toomey and give Boston College a 7-0 lead.Â
In the fourth inning, the Eagles would add two more runs, with the first coming on a triple by Ty Mainolfi to center that would score Wang, who had doubled to center. Mainolfi would then score in the very next at-bat when Toomey hit an infield single to the first baseman.Â
Boston College would put up seven more in the fifth inning to make it 16-0. Solier would make it 11-0 with a two-run single that would score both Owen DeShazo and Gallo. Colin Larson, who had worked in the at-bat before Solier's single, scored to make it 12-0 when he was brought in on a single by Wang. Toomey earned a bases-loaded walk to make it 13-0, and was followed up by Hendrickson, who was hit by a pitch to make it 14-0 as the bases remained full. The final two runs of the inning would come from Gallo, who would hit a grounder to the shortstop, but beat out the throw from second, allowing Mainolfi and Toomey to score.
The final run of the game would come on a bases-loaded walk by Mainolfi after the Eagles loaded the bases once again.
