BC pitchers have a Season High 16 Strikeouts
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Boston College Baseball (17-8, 6-3 ACC) defeated Northeastern (12-10, 7-2 CAA) in a midweek battle, 3-2.
Jacob Burnham started for the Eagles and went 2.1 innings, giving up an earned run while striking out four. He was relieved by Luke D'Ancona, who put together a strong afternoon, going a career high 3.2 innings while striking out a career high six batters. Sean Hard and Kyle Kipp combined to close out the game as Hard went two innings with four strikeouts while Kipp struck out two. The Boston College staff combined for a season-high 16 strikeouts, which was the most in a single game since April 2024.
The Eagles struck first at the top of the second inning when Jack Toomey led off with a double down the left field line. A fly out to right field by Danny Surowiec moved Toomey to third before a slow chopper by Luke Gallohe brought him in to score.
The Huskies would tie it in the bottom of the third when they would load the bases and then, on a single to shallow right field, would get a run across the plate. D'Ancona would come in with one out and bases loaded, but got out of the inning on a tag out at home on a wild pitch and a strikeout.
In the top of the fifth, Colin Larson would earn a full-count walk to lead off the inning. He was then moved to second on a single by Julio Solier before Nick Wang singled through the left side of the infield to bring Larson in from second.
Boston College would get an insurance run at the top of the ninth. Carter Hendrickson would lead off the ninth and earn another full-count before being pinch-run for by Owen DeShazo. DeShazo was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cesar Gonzalez, and then he advanced to third on a wild pitch. Solier would then lay down another sacrifice bunt that would allow DeShazo to score.
Northeastern would get a run back in the bottom of the ninth when, with two outs, they singled to left field, which would bring in a runner from second and make it 3-2. Kipp would then strike out his next batter and close out the game.
Up Next: The Eagles will return to action tomorrow when they host Merrimack with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
