Eagles Cruise to Victory Against UMass Lowell

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (13-8, 3-3 ACC) defeated UMass Lowell (7-9), 12-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Chase Hartsell earned his first career start for the Eagles and threw three innings, allowing three hits and just one earned run. He was replaced by Ethan Marzo, who made his Boston College debut and threw a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit. He was replaced by Jacob Burnham, who threw three innings of one-run ball while striking out two. Peter Schaefer finished the game by throwing an inning and allowing just one hit.
The Eagles struck first after getting runners on first and third courtesy of a Nick Wang triple and a walk from Jack Toomey; they were then both brought in on Danny Surowiec's first career home run, which made it 3-0 Eagles.
In the top of the second, the River Hawks made it 3-1 after an RBI double brought in a runner from second.
The Eagles would tack on two more in the bottom half of the second when Ty Mainolfi doubled in Julio Solier from second. Mainolfi then stole third and was driven in on a single from Wang to make it 5-1 Boston College.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles made it 7-1 when Jack Toomey lined a single to right to score Colin Larson and Julio Solier.
Larson added his second home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth that brought in Jace Roossien from second and made it 9-1 in favor of Boston College.
Toomey hit the Eagles' third home run of the day in the bottom of the sixth that scored Wang as well to make it 11-1 Boston College.
UMass Lowell made it 11-2 in the top of the seventh inning on a single to right field that scored a runner from second base.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles put runners on second and third following a sacrifice bunt by Ben Williams. Esteban Garcia then lined a single to center field, which brought in the winning run from third.
Up Next: The Eagles will return to action on Friday at 3:00 p.m. when they take on California in a return to ACC play.
