BC scores three times late to secure the victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (14-8, 4-3 ACC) defeated Cal (13-9, 0-4 ACC) in the first of three games this weekend, 4-3.

A.J. Colarusso started and went six innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out two. Cesar Gonzalez came on in relief and went three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits en route to earning the win.

The Golden Bears got on the board first with a single to left field that scored a runner from second base and gave Cal the early 1-0 lead.

They would pick up a second in the top half of the next inning with a single to center, bringing in the runner from third to give the Golden Bears a two-run advantage.

Boston College made it 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Gunnar Johnson singled in Danny Surowiec from second.

Cal would make it 3-1 in the top of the fourth when they launched a 402-foot home run to left center field.

Both defenses stood strong through the fifth and sixth innings, with the Eagles turning a double play to get out of a jam.

In the bottom of the seventh, Boston College tied the game at three courtesy of an RBI single from Ty Mainolfi after Julio Solier led the inning off with a triple. Mainolfi tied the game at three when a failed pick-off attempt went into center field, allowing him to score from third.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles took the lead when Colin Larson singled home Jace Roossien from second.

Gonzalez got the first two outs in the ninth and worked around two hits to get the final out and close out the game.

Up Next: The Eagles will return to action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for the second game of their series with the Golden Bears.
