March 01, 2026 | Softball
Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Boston College softball team (6-12, ACC 1-2) handed the University of North Carolina (17-1, ACC 2-1) their first loss on Sunday afternoon in a 10-2 victory at Anderson Softball Stadium.
After a quiet two innings in the final game of the series, Boston College opened up the offense in the top of the third with three hits resulting in two runs. Nicole Riddell and Kae DePerio each singled and advanced to put runners on second and third. Abby Ptak singled and scored both runners for two RBI.
The Tar Heels tried to put together a rally of their own in the bottom of the third, but Riddell put a stop to their momentum, throwing out a runner at third from right field.
The fourth inning was more of the same for the Eagles starting with a runner on second and an RBI double from Janis Espinoza to take a 3-1 lead. Riddell singled again and Espinoza stretched the outfield hit for another run.
Emma Knight got in on the party with a single in the fifth alongside two walks to load the bases with two outs. Espinoza put the ball in play to cause a UNC error that scored two more runs for the Eagles and extended the lead to 6-1.
North Carolina added a run off a solo homer in the sixth but it was not enough for what was coming in the seventh.
Meghan Schouten opened the final inning with a home run over the scoreboard in left field. Tavye Borders then singled and advanced to second. Espinoza hit her in with a RBI single followed by a double from pitcher Kelly Colleran. DePerio added one more to reach double digit runs and secure the game at 10-2 giving the Eagles their first conference win.
