Eagles Start ACC Play at UNC

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (5-10) will start ACC play at North Carolina as they take on the Tar Heels in a three game series that starts on Friday at 6 p.m. They will continue their travels with a midweek matchup against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, March 3.
LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles went 1-4 in their third weekend of play at the USF Invitational, opening the tournament with a 10-7 victory over Marist. Freshman Kae DePerio led the offense with 12 hits and a .533 batting average on the weekend. In the circle, Kelly Colleran delivered a career-high 13 strikeouts against Marist, as the pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts, the program's highest single-game total since 2022. Offensively, the Eagles tallied 15 hits in the win over Marist, marking the program's highest single-game hit total since March 2019. Emma Knight continued her strong start to the season, recording her third multi-RBI game of the year with two RBI against Indiana.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DePerio was named ACC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 24, after a standout performance in the leadoff spot. She hit .750 (12-for-16) on the week, including a perfect 3-for-3 showing in three games, while scoring 10 runs and adding a triple. DePerio also drew five walks, posting an .810 on-base percentage during the stretch. Defensively, she was flawless, recording a 1.000 fielding percentage with 11 assists and six putouts. She now leads the Eagles in season batting average (.553) and on-base percentage (.611).
PTAK ATTACK!
Abby Ptak continues to be an offensive force for the Eagles. Over the past weekend, the sophomore posted a team-best .882 slugging percentage and a .471 batting average, recording eight hits that included two doubles, a triple, and a home run for four RBI. She currently leads the team in season slugging percentage (.681), hits (21), and RBI (10), while extending her hitting streak to 12 games. Ptak also ranks seventh in the conference with 23 hits.
SCOUTING UNC
The Eagles are 5-42 all-time against the University of North Carolina, with their most recent victory coming in 2023 at home. UNC enters the weekend as the ACC's only undefeated team (14-0). Junior Emily LeGette was named Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week and ACC Player of the Week after leading North Carolina to six more wins. LeGette launched five home runs on the week, including two in one inning against North Carolina Central University, while batting .611 with three doubles, 14 RBI, nine runs scored, a .706 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
The Tar Heels currently lead the ACC in batting average (.439), runs (151), home runs (35), RBI (141), slugging percentage (.815), and on-base percentage (.508), while committing just six errors on the season. Three UNC athletes rank in the ACC top 10 in batting average: No. 1 LeGette (.611), No. 2 Sanaa Thompson (.571), and No. 4 Shelby Barbee (.529).
The Tar Heels will face Elon in a midweek game before the Eagles make their way to Chapel Hill.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T
North Carolina A&T enters the upcoming matchup with a 7–9 overall record following the Blues City Invitational, finishing 3-2 against a competitive field. The Aggies recorded notable wins over University of Memphis, Morehead State, and Bradley. A&T produced multiple high-scoring performances, including an 11-run effort in the tournament finale.
Offensively, the Aggies were led by sophomore Tyra Robinson, who delivered the game-winning home run against Morehead State, and junior Jamari Moss. In the circle, junior Aaliyah Williams anchored the pitching staff. The Aggies will face Presbyterian College, South Carolina State University and University of Maryland Eastern Shore before facing the Eagles.
UP NEXT
BC will travel to Salem, Va. for the Hokie Invite where they will face Michigan, Radford and JMU. The tournament is set to start March 5 at 4 p.m. at the James Moyer Sports Complex.
