CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College lacrosse earned a gritty 11-9 victory over No. 9 Clemson on Saturday afternoon in Fish Field House.
With the win, the Eagles secure their first top-10 triumph of the season and move to 2-3 overall, 2-1 in ACC play. Clemson falls to 3-3 and 0-2 in league action.
BC relied on a balanced effort highlighted by a dominant defensive performance. The Eagles forced a season-high nine caused turnovers, led by Devon Russell and Michaela O'Connor's three CTs. O'Connor added a career-high four ground balls, while five different Eagles recorded at least one CT. The defense clamped down after halftime, allowing just three second-half goals and holding Clemson scoreless for an 18:29 stretch.
Boston College also controlled the draw circle, winning the battle 15-7. Abbey Herod collected seven draw controls, becoming just the seventh player in program history to surpass 200 career draws.
Offensively, Kylee Colbert delivered a career performance with four goals. Marissa White (2 goals, 1 assist) and Molly Driscoll (2 goals, 1 assist) each tallied three points, while Lily Kondas recorded a career-best three points on one goal and two assists. Russell impacted both ends of the field, adding two goals, two ground balls and two draw controls to her three caused turnovers.
Clemson jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Eagles quickly settled in. Back-to-back goals off feeds from Hanna Davis to K.Colbert, followed by a strike from Kondas, trimmed the deficit to 4-2 heading into the second.
Driscoll then ignited a 3-0 run that tied the game at 5-5. Clemson responded with a goal in the final 10 seconds of the half to take a narrow 6-5 advantage into the break.
After the Tigers pushed their lead to 7-6 midway through the third, BC seized control with a decisive 5-0 run that stretched into the fourth quarter. White scored twice during the surge, capping it to give the Eagles an 11-7 edge.
Clemson added two late goals to cut the margin to two, but Boston College maintained possession and ran out the clock to secure the victory.
BC returns to action Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Duke in Durham.
