Aidan Shaw's Game-Winner Lifts Eagles Over Demon Deacons

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --Â Boston College earned a 68-67 victory over Wake Forest Wednesday evening after Aidan Shaw connected on a put-back with two-tenths of a second remaining. He finished the contest with a season-high 11 points while Fred Payne led the team with 23 points.

- Jayden Hastings earned the game's first bucket, grabbing an offensive rebound and laying it in. Wake Forest responded with a three-pointer on the other end
- The Eagles found their rhythm after the first media timeout, going on a 9-3 run to grow the lead to 11-5
- Wake Forest responded with a 9-3 run of their own to reclaim the lead
- Donald Hand Jr. became the 48th 1,000-point scorer after knocking down a driving layup with 5:44 remaining
- Both sides countered in the dying minutes, as Wake Forest took a 29-22 lead going into halftime
- Fred Payne spanked the BC offense with five straight points to cut it to a one-possession game. Boden Kapke then connected on a corner three to give the Eagles a 33-30 lead, their first since 11:14 in the first half
- BC extended its run to 23-5 in the opening eight minutes, highlighted by an Aidan Shaw slam dunk and buzzer-beater three-pointer, making it 45-34 with 11:17 remaining
- The Demon Deacons cut the deficit to three after connecting on multiple scores at the basket, but Shaw and Kapke combined for five unanswered to re-extend the lead to eight points with 3:38 remaining
- Wake Forest wouldn't back down, cutting the lead down to two after making a deep three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining. They would then force a turnover, connecting on a three to make it 67-66
- With 0.2 time remaining, Aidan Shaw rose for a put-back layup to put BC on top with the eventual game-winner.
- Fred Payne scored 23 points, making eight games in which he has surpassed 20+ in a game
- Boden Kapke (13) and Aidan Shaw (11) also added double-digit performances
- Kapke added 10Â rebounds to record his third double-double of the season, while Shaw's 11 points are a season-high
- Boston College improves to 3-12 in ACC play and 10-18 in the regular season
- The Eagles' all-time series record against Wake Forest is now 18-16
- Boston College travels to Coral Gables, Fla., to complete its home-and-home series against Miami on Feb. 28
- Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m. and will be available on the ACC Network and heard on WEEI 850
- Saturday's meeting will be the 62nd overall meeting between the Eagles and Hurricanes. BC holds a 31-30 all-time series lead
- The Eagles have taken four of the last five contests, with Miami claiming the most recent matchup earlier this season on Feb. 3 in a 74-68 decision
