Carmody Scores 21 in Setback to Miami

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball fell to Miami on Sunday afternoon inside Conte Forum, 82-70.
The Eagles fall to 4-24 and 0-15 in the ACC, while the Hurricanes improve to 13-12 and 5-9 in the conference.
Lily Carmody led four players in double figures with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, added five rebounds and three assists. Kayla Rolph scored 15 points on six field goals, while Amirah Anderson totaled 14 points.
Erin Houpt rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points, hitting three of her four shots from outside the arc.
Anderson led the charge in the opening quarter, scoring nine of her points in the frame. The freshman gave BC a 13-12 lead with 3:01 left in the period with five straight points before the visitors responded with an 8-1 run to go into the second with a 20-14 advantage.
The Hurricanes stretched their lead to double digits with a 9-0 surge to take a 15-point lead in the early minutes of the second. Miami stayed in control the rest of the quarter, taking a 46-29 cushion into the break.
BC trailed by 19 early in the second half, but sliced the gap later in the quarter to single digits after four straight field goals, highlighted by five points from Carmody. Miami hit a trifecta with under a minute left in the period to go back up by 12, 62-50.
A Houpt trifecta to begin the fourth brought the lead back down to 62-53. However, the Hurricanes answered with a 3-pointer of their own, stretching the lead to double digits for good and pulling away for the victory.
BC returns to action on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (ET) to face SMU in Dallas.

- The 21 points are an ACC high for Carmody and the third 20-point outing of the season for the sophomore.
- Carmody averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, three assists and three steals while shooting 60.9 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the line in two games this past week.
