Hemming nets game winner with first career goal
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 14 Boston College men's hockey team overturned two deficits en route to a 4-2 victory over Merrimack on Saturday evening at Kelley Rink. Oscar Hemming scored the game-winner with 36 seconds remaining. Brady Berard, James Hagens, and Aram Minnetian also lit the lamp in the win. Louka Cloutier made 19 saves, including 11 in the third period.
Boston College improves to 17-10-1 overall and 11-7-0 in Hockey East, while Merrimack is now 15-13-1 overall and 8-10-1 in league play.
With the score tied at 2-2 with under one minute remaining, Hemming scored the game-winning goal after following up on a rebound off a shot by Luka Radivojevic that was saved and went out of the reach of Merrimack's goaltender. Berard sealed the win with an empty-net goal with two seconds on the clock.
Merrimack opened the scoring early in the first period when Nick Pierre found Justin Gill at the net front to put a shot past Cloutier.
The Eagles scored the equalizer with just 3.6 seconds to spare in the opening period. Ryan Conmy and Teddy Stiga poked their sticks at the puck in front of goal but their efforts were kept out by the Warriors, until Minnetian came crashing in to fire it into the back of the net.
The Warriors jumped back in front with a power play goal midway through the second frame.
Boston College once again scored a late period equalizer, this time coming on the power play. J. Hagens carried the puck from the defensive zone into the offensive zone and down towards the red line, before playing a back-handed pass to Will Vote, who was crashing the net front, that led to a fortunate bounce off a Merrimack defender into the net to tie the game at 2-2 with under 90 seconds to go in the second period.
