Tampa, Fla. - The Boston College Softball team started the day with a 9-1 victory over DePaul before falling to Yale 2-0 in the Fonseca Memorial Tournament on Friday.
Game 1 - BC 9 | DPU 1 - 5 inn.
The Eagles started the morning off with hot bats. With two singles in the first inning, Emma Knight and Abby Ptak put themselves into scoring position for Kiley Buckley's at bat. On a 3-2 count Buckley chose her pitch to send over the left field fence for her second collegiate home run and first in the Maroon and Gold. Buckley's hit gave the Eagles an early 3-0 lead over the Blue Demons.
In the second Meghan Schouten and Kae DePerio each singled and advanced to third and second. Sammy Horn laid down a sac bunt to score Schouten for an RBI. Janis Espinoza walked and rounded first and while DePaul wasn't looking DePerio stole home to extend the lead to 5-0.Â
DePaul responded in the third with a run but the Eagles would also add on in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from Schouten.Â
The fourth inning brought the second home run on the day, this one from Knight. Knight's left field shot brought home Espinoza for an 8-1 lead.
The Eagles ended the game in the fifth inning with errors and a wild pitch from the Blue Demons for a 9-1 run rule victory.
Game 2 - BC 0 | YALE 2
Yale struck early with an RBI triple in the first inning and added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the win.
