Eagles Fall Short at Home Against NC State

Payne led all scorers with a career-high 24 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College was defeated by NC State 79-71, on Tuesday night on the Edgerly Family Court at Conte Forum. Fred Payne scored a career-high 24 points and four assists, while Jayden Hastings pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

FIRST HALF
- Payne opened the scoring with two free throws from a personal foul on Alyn Breed from NC State to give BC a 2-0 edge before the Wolfpack answered with a jumper and capitalized on a steal to take early momentum
- BC responded with ball movement on offense with a Payne three-pointer off an assist from Luka Toews to take a 5-4 lead, before NC State moved back on a dunk by Quadi Copeland at 16:34
- NC State extended the lead to 20-10 midway through the half, but BC remained vigilant in their defense through rebounds, resulting in a dunk and layup by Hastings in the paint
- Payne chipped away at the deficit with free throws at 7:52 and a jumper off an offensive rebound, while Donald Hand Jr. knocked down a three-pointer alongside a free throw on the fast break, bringing the score to 27-20
- BC continued to close the gap late, as Payne buried another three-pointer to make the score 36-30, before Chase Forte found Marko Radunovic for a layup to send the teams into halftime with NC State leading 40–32
SECOND HALF

- BC came out of the break strong, opening with a Payne three-pointer and a Boden Kapke layup to cut the deficit to 42–37
- After a missed jumper, Hastings secured a rebound that led to a Toews three-pointer, keeping the Eagles within striking distance
- Payne scored in the paint at 16:55 to make it 48–42, and Kapke followed with a layup at 14:02 as BC continued to battle back
- Forte set up Payne to push him to 21 points, then later found Hand Jr. for a three-pointer at 10:49 to make it 55–51
- The score remained tight down the stretch, with Kapke converting free throws at 9:46 to make it 56–53, but NC State answered and closed at the line to secure the 79–71 victory
