Vote scores natural hat trick; Cloutier posts 29-save shutout
DURHAM, N.H. – The No. 15/14 Boston College men's hockey team completed the weekend sweep over New Hampshire with a 3-0 victory on Saturday at the Whittemore Center. Will Vote led the way with a natural hat trick and the Eagles were backstopped by a 29-save shutout by Louka Cloutier.
Lukas Gustafsson tallied two assists, while Andre Gasseau, Michael Hagens, and Oscar Hemming each had one assist.
Boston College improves to 13-8-1 overall and 9-5-0 in Hockey East while New Hampshire moves to 11-12-0 overall and 5-8-0 in league play.
BC opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal through Vote. Gustafsson and Hemming connected before finding Vote at the left faceoff circle. Vote took his time and fired a shot that took a fortunate deflection that put the puck into the top left corner to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
The Eagles carried the momentum into the middle frame and doubled their lead just 2:28 into the period when Gustafsson quickly launched the puck from the blue line towards the front of goal where Vote was waiting for the one-timer to redirect it into the net for his second goal of the night.
New Hampshire nearly cut into the deficit midway through the second period, but a coach's challenge from BC led to the goal being overturned for offsides to keep the Boston College lead at two.
Late in the third period, Gasseau took a shot that went wide, but bounced off the boards and came back towards goal for Vote to pounce on and put home to complete the hat trick and extend the BC lead to three.
Cloutier made 12 saves in the final period to close out the game and earn the shutout.
