BC jumped out to a 3-0 and never looked back
BOSTON – The No. 13/14 Boston College men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-1 victory over Boston University on Friday evening at Agganis Arena in the 299th Battle of Comm Ave.
Andre Gasseau, James Hagens, and Dean Letourneau each finished with two points on one goal and one assist, while Brady Berard also tallied a goal for the Eagles. Louka Cloutier provided a 33-save effort to earn the win.
Boston College improves to 14-8-1 overall and 10-5-0 in Hockey East while Boston University moves to 12-13-1 overall and 8-10-0 in league play.
The Eagles opened the scoring early in the contest after forcing a BU turnover in the neutral zone, Oscar Hemming carried the puck into the Terriers' defensive zone and took a shot that was deflected by a defender before he then passed it back to Gasseau. Gasseau quickly fired a shot towards the goal that took a fortunate deflection off a BU defender and found its way into the net.
Cloutier made 15 saves in the opening period to keep the Eagles ahead 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
At 5:59 in the second period, J. Hagens and Letourneau combined for a coast-to-coast goal to extend the Eagles lead to 2-0. On a 2v1, Letourneau drew the defender in close before finding Hagens for the one-timer from the slot.
Later in the period, Will Vote retrieved the puck from Jake Sondreal from behind the net to pass it to Letourneau who was wide open in front of the net. Letourneau one-timed his shot into the top right corner past the BU goaltender to push the lead to three.
The Terriers pulled one back on the power play in the first minute of the third period to cut the BC lead down to 3-1.
Berard sealed the game with an empty-net goal with just over one minute to go in the third period to make it a three-goal game.
