BC Bests Syracuse in Overtime at Conte Forum

Eagles battle back to earn first ACC win of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College used late heroics to earn its first ACC win of the season, defeating Syracuse 81-73 in overtime at Conte Forum. Fred Payne led the way with 26 points, a career-high, and four Eagles finished in double figures.

- Syracuse opened the contest with two layups. BC leveled the contest at 4-4 with a Boden Kapke hook shot and a Donald Hand Jr. layup
- The Orange reclaimed the lead right after, extending it to nine points just before the 12-minute media timeout
- BC took its first lead with a Chase Forte step-back three, making it 19-18
- Both sides would trade the lead before Syracuse used an 8-0 scoring run to grab a seven-point lead with 1:07 remaining
- The Orange would take a 33-28 lead going into halftime
- BC and Syracuse traded threes early in the half. Syracuse rebuilt a seven-point lead by the first timeout
- Buckets from Jayden Hastings, Luka Toews, and Fred Payne sparked a 9-0 run for the Eagles to take a three-point lead with 11:14 remaining
- It would remain a one-score game throughout the remainder of the half before Syracuse used a pair of layups and free throws to stretch the lead back to seven, making it 62-55
- BC answered with a Kapke floater and Hand Jr. three, cutting the deficit to two minutes left in the game
- With under 10 seconds left and down three, the ball found the hands of Hand Jr., who pulled up and laced a contested three-pointer to tie the game at 64-64. Syracuse would turn the ball over, sending the game to overtime
- Aidan Shaw started overtime with an emphatic dunk, then Forte followed with a layup to give the Eagles a four-point cushion
- Hastings slammed down a lob before Hand Jr. connected on a transition layup to build the lead to 72-66 and force Syracuse to take a timeout
- Syracuse would cut the lead to three points on multiple occasions, but a Payne steal forced the Orange to foul and send the Eagles to the line
- Boston College would hold on for an 81-73 overtime victory at Conte Forum
- Fred Payne surpassed his season high for the third time this season, finishing with 26 points. This is the fourth straight game Payne has logged 20+ points. He added six assists and matched a game-high three steals
- Jayden Hastings was perfect from the field, going 4-for-4 with 10 points and collecting 13 rebounds. This is the second time the redshirt-sophomore has recorded a double-double
- Aidan Shaw and Chase Forte combined for 20 points off the bench. They added 10 rebounds and five stocks (blocks+steals)
- Boston College moves to 1-4 in ACC play and 8-10 in the regular season
- The Eagles improve to 28-60 all-time against the Orange

- Boston College hosts Pitt on Wednesday, January 21, at Conte Forum
