
Field Hockey Prepares for ACC/Big Ten Challenge

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College field hockey prepares for a big weekend in Durham, N.C. as they head into the ACC/Big Ten Challege starting on Friday against No. 4 Maryland before No.1 Northwestern on Sunday.

OPENING WEEKEND
- The Eagles opened the season 2-0 after defeating the University of Maine Black Bears (2-0) and the Indiana University Hooisers (2-1) over the weekend.
- Carine Van Wiechen helped preserve the shutout against Maine in the 51st minute when she made a pad save following a penalty corner. Van Wiechen and Charlotte Kramer combined for the shutout as each recorded a save.
- Madelieve Drion and Melea Weber combined in the first eight minutes of the game to give BC an early lead.
- In the second game of the weekend against the Hoosier, Caroline Chisholm scored the first goal of the game and the first of her career.
- Madeline Leigh finished off the game in the final seconds with a game winning shot to help the team remain perfect through the opening weekend.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
- This will be the 21st meeting between the Eagles and Terrapins.
- Maryland is a part of the Big Ten Conference.
- The Eagles last beat Maryland (3-2) in 2021 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge hosted by Duke.
- Both teams come into the weekend with a 2-0 record.
- Maryland defeated Villanova and Stanford in the opening weekend.
- Against Stanford, Goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko earned her 12th-career shutout while Jordyn and Josie Hollamon combined for three goals.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
- This will be the 18th time the Eagles have faced the Wildcats with the first meeting in 1988.
- Northwestern is part of the Big Ten, finishing 23-1 last season as national champions.
- NU enters the 2025 season with three returning NFHCA All-Americans.
- The 'Cats added seven newcomers in the off-season, including transfer talent from Kate Janssen, Kerry McCormick and Grace Schulze from Delaware, Old Dominion and Princeton.
- The Eagles last beat the Wildcats (2-1) in 2021 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge hosted by Duke as well as the year before (2019) in the NCAA tournament.
