NEWTON, Mass. – Trailing 1-0 late in the match, Boston College men's soccer scored two goals in the 88th minute to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over local rival Boston University on Tuesday evening at the Newton Soccer Complex. CJ Williams finished with three points on one goal and one assist, while Johannes Hanken Tjostheim scored the game-winning goal.
BC improves to 5-4-0 overall while BU drops to 4-3-0.
With the score tied at 1-1 and all the momentum in favor of the Eagles, Hanken Tjostheim put BC in front after curling an effort into the bottom right corner. Williams launched the ball forward on the left flank to Russell Brown, who whipped a cross into the box. The ball fell to Hanken Tjostheim, who made no mistake from 12 yards out from goal.
Just 41 seconds earlier, Williams blasted home his first goal of the season to tie the game. The senior defenseman received the ball from roughly 35 yards out. He dribbled around a defender and unleashed a left-footed strike into the top left corner of the net.
The Terriers opened the scoring early in the first half, connecting on the end of a corner kick to jump out to an early lead.
The Eagles held the edge in corners, 10-5, and in shots on goal, 4-3.
Boston College extends its unbeaten run over Boston University to 12 games.
BC travels across the country this weekend to take on Stanford. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET on Sunday and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
