Colarusso Strikes Out Ten as Stanford Claims Tight Game One

Game two between BC and Stanford scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (22-25, 9-16 ACC) fell 2-0 to Stanford (23-19, 8-17 ACC) in game one of the weekend series on Friday night at Harrington Athletics Village.
A.J. Colarusso started for the Eagles and got right to work, striking out the side in the top of the first. Colarusso followed with another strikeout in the second, and two more in the third, matching his season-high with six strikeouts through just 12 batters. Stanford opened the scoring in the third with an RBI single through the left side, but Colarusso responded with a 1-2-3 fourth, picking up his season-best seventh strikeout to keep it a one-run game in the fourth.
The sides traded scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth, with Stanford holding a 1-0 lead to begin the sixth. Colarusso came back out to face the heart of the Stanford order and faced just four batters in a scoreless sixth, logging his eighth strikeout of the game to match his career-high.
After a scoreless sixth, Colarusso stayed in the game for the seventh and did not let up. He worked his third 1-2-3 frame of the game and picked up his ninth strikeout, setting a new career-high for the junior lefty out of Leominster, Massachusetts.
The sides traded zeroes in the seventh, and Colarusso came back out for the eighth. The Boston College starter struck out his tenth batter of the game, shattering his career-high and comfortably setting the season-high for the Eagles' staff. With the bases loaded and two outs, John Kwiatkowski entered in relief and logged an inning-ending strikeout. After a scoreless eighth, Stanford took their 1-0 lead into the ninth inning. The visitors extended the lead to 2-0 on a single and RBI double in the top of the ninth, and held the lead in the bottom of the frame to take game one.
