Brady Miller turned in a career-best seven shutout innings in Sunday start
BOSTON — Boston College Baseball (21-23, 9-15 ACC) fell 3-2 to Miami (27-18, 12-9 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, working the bases loaded on a Josiah Ragsdale single and a pair of walks. Adam Magpoc brought the first run across on a bases-loaded walk, and recorded a pair of 4-3 putouts at second base in the following frame to give BC a 1-0 lead after two full.
Colin Larson padded the advantage in the fifth, driving his second home run of the season into the Fenway Park bullpen, a solo shot to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Brady Miller got the nod at pitcher on Sunday and turned in a stellar seven innings of work, silencing the Hurricanes with just 60 pitches through a career-high six frames, allowing four scattered hits with one strikeout and no walks. Miller came back out for the seventh and set down the first two in order, but a two-out walk and subsequent single put runners at the corners with two outs. Miller worked around it, forcing a flout to end the frame and cap off a career-day for the freshman lefty, completing seven shutout frames of work.
Miami took the lead in the eighth, going up 3-2 on a three-run home run that wrapped around the foul pole in right field. The visitors worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth, holding off the Eagles in the final frame to win 3-2.
The Eagles will resume action with a Tuesday afternoon matchup vs. UMass Amherst, back at Fenway Park at 4:00.
