JD Ogden Spins Gem in Relief as Eagles Tie Series on Friday Night
April 18, 2025 | Baseball
Ogden tossed a career-high six shutout innings with three Ks in win
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Boston College Baseball (18-20, 8-12 ACC) took down Wake Forest (26-14, 10-10 ACC) in game two of the series, forcing the rubber match with a 7-2 win at David F. Couch Ballpark on Friday night.
The hosts opened the scoring in the second inning on a leadoff double and a pair of RBI groundouts. Brady Miller, who started for the Eagles, responded with a scoreless third to keep it a two-run game. JD Ogden relieved Miller in the fourth and worked a 1-2-3 frame, setting up the Eagles in the fifth inning.
Sam McNulty doubled, and after BC worked the bases loaded, Josiah Ragsdale attempted a steal of home, forcing a catcher's interference that scored the run and re-loaded the bases. Adam Magpoc and Beck Milner drew consecutive bases-loaded walks, finishing off a four-run fifth and giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead after five full.
Ogden came back out for the sixth and hung another zero, and the Eagles took a 4-2 lead into the seventh. The Eagles rallied again in the seventh, drawing two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs. Adam Magpoc drew his second RBI walk of the day, and Cesar Gonzalez added another on a bases-loaded groundout. Vince Cimini stepped in to pinch hit and delivered, dropping an RBI single into left-center to make it 7-2 midway through the seventh.
After a scoreless top of the eighth, JD Ogden came back out for his fifth inning of work and turned in his best inning, striking out the side to give the Eagles a 7-2 lead going into the ninth inning. Ogden came back out for the ninth and completed his career day, hanging another zero to secure the 7-2 win and force the series rubber match.
The Eagles and Demon Deacons will play in the series-deciding game three on Saturday at noon.
