Eagles Earn ACC Opening Win Over Duke

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College lacrosse started off on the right foot in ACC play with a 19-10 win over Duke.Â
The Eagles improve to 5-0 and 1-0 in league action, while the Blue Devils fall to 2-2 and 0-1 in the league.Â
BC dominated the draw circle, 25-8, with Abbey Herod totaling nine draw controls. Devon Russell's six was a career high, while she added two goals, one assist and three points.Â
Lydia Colasante posted five DC's with one goal and two ground balls. Shea Baker led the way with two caused turnovers and four draw controls.Â
Rachel Clark and Emma LoPinto got the offense going, combining to score the first six goals of the game, giving BC a 6-2 lead in the second. Molly Driscoll and Mia Mascone found the back of the net to cap off a 4-0 spurt.Â
The Eagles held a seven-goal lead at the beginning of the third when LoPinto found Russell for the score. Duke responded by scoring three straight before BC scored three of its own within a 48-second span highlighted by a buzzer-beating goal from Baker.Â
Duke sliced the gap to four in the fourth, but the Eagles put the game away thanks to a 6-0 surge with five different players scoring to seal the win.Â
Clark kept up her scoring ways with four goals and two assists for six points, while Driscoll tied a career best with five points (3 goals, 2 assists). LoPinto netted a hat trick with one assist for four points, and Kylee Colbert tallied three points thanks to a pair of scores and a helper. Mascone scored twice and Maria Themelis scored as well, and Davis dished out a season-best five assists.Â
BC returns to action next week at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg at 11 a.m.Â
