Eagles Drop ACC/SEC Men's Challenge Game to LSU in Overtime

Steger and Kapke combine for 23 off the bench
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College was defeated by LSU, 78-69, in overtime on Wednesday night on the Edgerley Family Court at Conte Forum. With the loss, BC fell to 4-5 this season. Luka Toews led the Eagles in scoring, tying a career high with 14 points.Â
FIRST HALF
- Fred Payne was the first Eagle in the scoring column with a driving layup on the first possession
- LSU jumped out to an early 16-7 lead before the 12-minute timeout, but Boden Kapke and Caleb Steger responded with back-to-back three-pointers to narrow the gap to three
- Midway through the half, the Eagles held LSU scoreless for over five minutes of action, until the Tigers ended the drought at the 6:56 mark
- BC fell behind - 29-19 - heading into the final three minutes of the half
- With 1:31 until halftime, Payne stole the ball away and finished in transition with a one-handed slam
- The Eagles trailed 37-26 at the half
SECOND HALF
- Jayden Hastings scored the first two baskets of the half for the Eagles
- Toews spearheaded a 12-0 Eagles run, capped off by a mid-range jumper that knotted the game at 45 with 12:12 remaining
- Payne buried his first three-pointer of the contest with 8:31 left to play, tying the game again at 51
- At the 6:23 mark, Hastings gave BC its first lead (53-51) with a basket in the paint as part of an 8-0 Eagles run
- Heading into the final minutes, LSU faced a four-minute scoring drought and had missed 10 of its last 11 shot attempts
- BC carried a 61-57 lead into the last minute of the game
OVERTIME
- LSU scored the first six points of overtime, seizing a 67-61 lead
- BC trailed 72-65 heading into the final minute

- Four Eagles finished in double figures: Toews (14), Kapke (12), Donald Hand Jr. (12), and Steger (11)
- Toews tied a career high with 14 points
- Steger notched a career-high 11 points, nailing three three-pointers in his second consecutive game
