BC Defeats Le Moyne 72-64 to Finish Non-Conference Action

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College closed out non-conference action this afternoon with a 72-64 win over Le Moyne on the Edgerley Family Court at Conte Forum. Donald Hand Jr. scored a game high 26 points, while Fred Payne added a career high 22 points.

- Donald Hand Jr. opened the scoring with a driving layup and a pull-up three-pointer
- Fred Payne took control, scoring BC's next eight points to push the lead to 15-13 with 11:39
- Le Moyne took its first lead 20 seconds later with a fastbreak three and pull-up midrange shot to make it 18-15
- Both sides traded the lead heading into the final media timeout before Hand Jr. laced his second three to extend the lead back to three with 2:16 remaining
- BC would take a 30-29 lead going into halftime
- Hand Jr. opened the half with a hook layup to reach double-digit figures
- The Dolphins level the score at 34-34 before the Eagles used a 7-0 run to tie their largest lead of the game
- Le Moyne responded with multiple threes, taking a four-point edge midway through the half
- BC answered with a 10-1 scoring run, capped by a Boden Kapke slam dunk and three's from Hand Jr. and Payne to make it 60-55
- After buckets from Hand Jr. and Chase Forte, the Eagles grabbed their largest lead of the game with a Payne free throw with just over a minute left
- The visitors crawled back, cutting the deficit to three after back-to-back layups and free throws
- BC held down defensively, grabbing two crucial rebounds to send them to the charity stripe and seal the contest
- The Eagles would take a 72-64 win
- Fred Payne logged a career-high 22 points, going 5-for-10 from three
- Donald Hand Jr. scored 22 points, extending his double-digit points streak to five games
- Boden Kapke secured a season-high 11 rebounds
- Jayden Hastings grabbed three blocks, and Chase Forte had a game-high three steals
- BC is 3-1 vs. NEC teams this season and 30-2 all-time
- This afternoon marked the first win against Le Moyne in 45 years
- Boston College travels to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech in the ACC opener
- The contest is set for Saturday, January 3, tipping off at 2 p.m. and will be available on ACCN
- Saturday's meeting will be the 35th overall meeting between the Eagles and Yellow Jackets
