
Women's Basketball Drops Finale in Daytona

DAYTONA, Fla. - Boston College women's basketball suffered an 82-77 loss to Murray State in game two of the Daytona Classic on Saturday afternoon in the Ocean City Center.
The Eagles drop to 4-6 on the season, while the Racers improve to 5-2.
Teionni McDaniel led four players in double figures with 18 points while grabbing five boards with four assists. Athena Tomlinson netted 12 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
Ava McGee registered a career-high 11 points and eight off the glass, while Amirah Anderson rounded out the leading scorers with 11. Kayla Rolph led the team with seven boards and seven points.
It was a contest that came down to the wire, as neither team led by more than six points down the stretch in the fourth quarter. The Racers broke a 73-73 tie, scoring four straight with 1:13 left in the game,followed by a layup from Lily Carmody on the ensuing possession to close the gap to one score. However, the Racers scored five of the final seven points to close out the win.
Trailing 54-52 midway through the third, McGee scored four of the Eagles' points during a 7-2 spurt that gave BC a 59-54 edge. MSU responded with a run of its own, taking a 60-59 edge with 17 seconds before McGee scored one again to send BC into the third with a 61-60 lead, setting up a battle in the fourth.
The Eagles got off to another strong start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead with four baskets in the first 2:04 of the contest. BC held the Racers to 4-of-16 shooting from the field, including a stretch of seven straight missed field goals en route to a 20-15 first-quarter lead.
Boston College grew its lead to 31-23 after an Erin Houpt jumper, before the Racers went on a 9-0 run to take a 32-31 lead. Both teams went back and forth to close out the first, with Athena Tomlinson hitting a jumper to give BC a 43-42 advantage at the break.
BC returns to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Quinnipiac, the beginning of five straight home games.
