NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College men's soccer closed regular season play Friday evening, earning a 2-1 victory on senior night against Saint Joseph's. Ask Ekeland led the way, recording his first multi-goal performance of the season, while Patrick Donovan logged one save in net.
The Eagles' record improves to 7-8-1 overall, while the Hawks move to 6-7-4.
Boston College threatened to strike first early in the contest, registering three shots in the first five minutes of action. The team's best opportunity came in the 10th minute, when Michael Asare made an overlapping run into the box and shot on target, only for the Hawks' goalkeeper to save it.
Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the 19th minute, as Tommaso Rossetto drew a penalty just outside the six-yard box, which Luke Johnson then slotted away to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The Eagles responded less than five minutes after the opener, as a deflected shot from Ziad Abdul-Malak ricocheted to the feet of Ekeland, who belted a half-volley shot past the goalkeeper's outstretched hands to level the score at 1-1. The score would remain the same at halftime.
The second half was a midfield battle for the opening 10 minutes. BC looked to grab the lead with a 25-yard Ekeland free kick. The Norwegian's shot bounced off the left post, followed by a shot over the bar from Marci Killeen.
Ekeland continued to excel in the final third, finding the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute with a left-footed shot just inside the box to give Boston College a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles would dictate possession for the remainder of the contest, taking a 2-1 victory under the lights of Newton Soccer Complex.
Boston College outshot Saint Joseph's 25-8, including 9-2 in shots on goal.
BC enters the ACC Tournament as the No. 15 seed and will face No. 2 seed and current National No. 1 Stanford in the first round on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is slated for 9:00 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
