D’Agostino elevated after serving as interim head coach since Aug. 3
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College has named Francesco D'Agostino head coach of its men's soccer program, removing the interim designation he has held since Aug. 3.
D'Agostino, in his seventh season at Boston College, spent the previous six seasons as associate head coach. He brings collegiate head coaching experience, a background in player development and extensive ties to soccer in New England.
During his tenure at Boston College, D'Agostino has helped develop All-ACC selections and players who have advanced to the professional ranks. Standout players included Ask Ekeland, who earned second-team All-ACC honors, and Stefan Sigurdarson, who led the conference in goals and points in 2022. Multiple Eagles advanced to the professional level, including MLS SuperDraft picks CJ Williams, Victor Souza, and Amos Shapiro-Thompson.
"Frankie has earned this opportunity through his leadership, his commitment to our student-athletes and his vision for Boston College men's soccer," said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James. "Through his seven years on The Heights, he has proven that he understands what it means to represent Boston College and is dedicated to helping our players succeed on and off the field. We are confident in his ability to lead this program forward and build sustained success."
Before joining Boston College, D'Agostino served as an assistant coach and interim head coach at Harvard. He previously worked as an assistant with the UMass Lowell men's soccer program, helping the River Hawks finish 13-1-2 in 2016 and capture their first America East regular-season championship. The staff earned America East and regional coaching staff of the year honors.
D'Agostino also served as head coach of the UMass Lowell women's soccer program. His additional experience includes leading the Boston Bolts in USL League Two and the Boston Breakers reserve team, which posted three consecutive undefeated regular seasons from 2014-16 and won a national championship in 2016.
"I am excited to build on what we have established this year," said D'Agostino. "We know the work ahead, and we will continue to strengthen our identity and our commitment to being men for others. I want to thank Eric Ziady and Blake James for this opportunity to continue at Boston College as head coach. I am incredibly grateful for their trust and confidence in me, and humbled as I look forward to continuing to build this program and represent Boston College. Throughout this year, my wife, Taia, and my children, Sonni, Romeo, and Vittorio, have been my north star. Their love and support have meant everything to me through the highs and lows of this journey. I have also leaned deeply into my faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior, and in St. Joseph, the pillar of families and model of workmen. My faith and my family have continued to guide me, ground me, and remind me of what matters most.
I also want to recognize our staff's hard work in helping establish and communicate our message every day. Luke Perry, Braima Samati, and Pedro Zampilli have been instrumental in building a clear identity and a strong foundation for this program. I am grateful for their commitment, effort, and belief in what we are building together. I would also like to thank Bob Thompson for his wisdom, coaching experience, and the time we have spent together; I am grateful for his experience and the lessons he has shared with me. The future of our program will be built on the blueprint of Grit and Gratitude. I believe in this group of young men and in what we can continue to accomplish at Boston College. Go Eagles!"
A former collegiate player at James Madison, D'Agostino continued his playing career in Italy with Molfetta Sportiva, Melphicta Calcio and Virtus Bitritto. He holds a UEFA A license from the Irish federation and a UEFA B license from the Italian federation.
