September 06, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Michael Asare scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute
NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College men's soccer and No. 20 Syracuse played to a 1-1 draw in the first ACC contest of the season on Friday night at the Newton Soccer Field. Michael Asare tallied his first collegiate goal while Leo Guarino picked up the assist.
BC moves to 2-0-3, 0-0-1 on the season while Syracuse is now 2-1-2, 0-0-1.
The Orange struck first, scoring just 43 seconds into the contest. This marked uncharted territory for Boston College as this was the first time all season they fell behind in a game.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to respond as they tied the game midway through the first half when Asare found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career. Guarino picked up the 50-50 ball and dribbled nearly 20 yards, bringing into the box and finding Asare, who was able to control the pass before getting his shot past the Syracuse goalkeeper in the 22nd minute.
BC outshot the Orange, 16-14, with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Boston College produced several high quality chances in the final few minutes in search of the winner, but the chances were rebuffed by the Syracuse defense.
The Eagles return to action next Friday at 7 p.m. for an ACC contest against Clemson at the Newton Soccer Field.
