September 24, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Ochoa scored the equalizer in the 86th minute
BOSTON – Boston College men's soccer and Boston University played to a 1-1 tie in the Battle of Comm Ave on Tuesday evening at Nickerson Field. The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute, but a goal from Diego Ochoa in the 86th minute tied the match.
BC moves to 3-2-4 overall while BU is now 1-2-6.
The Terriers struck first after Damola Salami was able to get a shot past BC goalkeeper Brennan Klein.
The BU lead didn't last for long as the Eagles responded just minutes later. Jonathan Murphy drew a free kick down the right wing towards the corner flag. Ochoa stepped up to take the free kick and, after a generous deflection, found its way into the net for his first tally of the season to tie the game.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes, with the Eagles leading in shots on goal, 2-1. Marco Dos Santos registered both of those shots for Boston College with the second chance nearly finding the back of the net. Ask Eekland chipped the ball over the defense to a running Dos Santos and his shot was saved by Terrier goalkeeper Sheraz Saadat.
Xavier O'Neil generated multiple chances early in the second half, forcing several diving stops from Saadat to keep the game level.
BC held the advantage in shots on goal, 6-4, and on corner kicks, 8-6.
The Eagles return to the Newton Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon to take on Louisville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
