Ekeland tallies sixth goal of the season
NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College men's soccer scored in the 86th minute for the second-straight contest, this time earning a point in the ACC standings with a 1-1 tie against Louisville on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field.
BC moves to 3-2-5 overall with a 0-2-2 league record while Louisville is now 4-3-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the ACC.
Facing a 1-0 deficit late into the second half, the Eagles piled on the pressure to try and score the equalizer. After forcing another corner kick in quick succession, BC capitalized on the opportunity. Leo Guarino's corner was sent into the box and the initial header was made by a Louisville defender. But, the ball didn't travel too far as Michael Asare got his head on the second ball, which went to Ask Ekeland, who headed it over the Louisville goalkeeper into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign.
The Cardinals opened the scoring early in the second half when Gage Guerra connected on the end of a cross at the back post in the 53rd minute of play.
The Eagles' first chance of the afternoon came in the opening seconds, going right to goal from the kickoff. Ekeland chipped a ball over the Louisville defense to Asare, who's close range shot was saved and pushed out of play for a corner kick.
Boston College created numerous opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, registering 11 shots on goal while also having seven corner kicks.
The Eagles travel to North Carolina to face Wake Forest on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
